For this Michigan residence, simplicity wasn’t just a preference; it was a principle. The clients, steeped in the world of commercial construction, came to O’Brien Harris with a modern aesthetic and a keen eye for quality. The kitchen had to reflect that balance: edited and architectural but layered with warmth.
On the surface, the galley kitchen is serene and minimal. A vast island and wall of cabinetry define the space, anchored by a striking cold-rolled steel hood. But the magic happens behind the scenes: a concealed pantry hides a second oven, refrigeration, cleanup sink, and carefully organized storage. It’s a space designed for heavy function without disrupting the home’s calm, composed rhythm.
Storage is seamlessly integrated; even the hood contains hidden cabinets beneath matching steel panels. The bar, positioned adjacent to the kitchen, continues the language of simplicity with integrated refrigeration, a sink, and sleek storage for glassware. Each element is designed with purpose, precision, and a profound respect for space.
An elegant, restrained material palette dominates the space, featuring warm woods, blackened metals, and antique mirror accents. Together, they create a modern backdrop for everyday living, elevated by subtle craft and thoughtful restraint.
