This Florida retreat was designed to blend seamlessly with its tropical surroundings while defying traditional expectations of kitchen design. The client’s vision was clear: they didn’t want the kitchen to look like a kitchen. O’Brien Harris brought this to life through integrated cabinetry, hidden appliances, and a thoughtful, understated aesthetic.
There’s not a single upper cabinet in sight. Instead, a striking wall of full-height cabinetry conceals the refrigerator, freezer, coffee station, and small appliances—eliminating countertop clutter and preserving the clean lines of the space. Lower cabinets are uniformly paneled with no visible hardware or exposed drawers. Interior drawers are fully hidden, opened with touch-latch mechanisms for a seamless look. At the edge of the space, a pass-through nook connects directly to the pool area, with refrigerated drawers and fluted green cabinetry finished in a custom European-inspired glaze—created by O’Brien Harris’ decorative painters to achieve layered depth and softness.
In the heart of the home, a sculptural bar serves as both a focal point and a gathering place. Shallow in depth but high in function, it features rounded corners, softened details, and a dramatic stone top that distinguishes it from the kitchen nearby.
The primary bath continues the theme of quiet sophistication with floating vanities and checkerboard tile flooring that runs wall to wall. O’Brien Harris achieved generous storage capacity through well-designed drawer layouts. The cabinetry itself is minimal and sleek, allowing the lighting, mirror, and decorative molding to take center stage. O’Brien Harris collaborated with the designer on several guest baths that each reflect the individuality of the space, with each vanity customized to suit unique wallpapers, colors, and details. Though modest in scale, each bathroom is a thoughtful jewel box. High-gloss finishes and simple, refined hardware elevate even the most compact spaces into moments of charm and personality.
